LEYBOLD OPTICS announces new free margin evaporator for Cap-M series metallizers
Alzenau, 07/2007
LEYBOLD OPTICS, a leading manufacturer of web coating equipment, announces a new free margin evaporator for its Cap-M series of capacitor web metallizers. Unlike the traditional products, the new device uses flash evaporation of the masking oil which is injected directly into the evaporator. Dosage and regulation of the gas generator are achieved by utilizing a volumetric pump, which controls the precise amount of injected oil.
This revolutionary approach offers the customer various advantages such as
- virtually instant start/stop of masking oil evaporation (no contamination of chamber and rollers during start up and shut down of coating)
- virtually instant adaptation of masking oil evaporation rate with web speed (constant and optimum amount of masking oil throughout the whole run)
- minimal consumption of costly masking oil (only the amount of oil needed for masking is injected into the evaporator)
- constant properties of masking oil vapor (constant masking quality, no distillation of volatile fractions)
- no degradation of residual heated oil over time in the reservoir (no oil waste)
- easy refill of the reservoir in atmosphere any time (electronic fill sensor ensures correct level before process start = process security)
Overall, the new evaporator will meet the demands of customers for a better solution of oil masking. LEYBOLD OPTICS' solution will help customers to cut the costs of oil masking drastically thanks to precise dosage and because any waste of expensive masking oil is avoided. At the same time the product quality is improved by applying a constant amount of masking oil even under changing coating conditions. The new, patented evaporator is scheduled for commercial release at the beginning of 2008.
About LEYBOLD OPTICS
As a prominent manufacturer of vacuum coating systems and developer of processes for the thin film technology, LEYBOLD OPTICS is represented in thirteen countries worldwide. The main focus of our processing technologies is on evaporation, sputtering and plasma-assisted coating processes for display technology, ophthalmics, precision optics, reflective and protective coatings, web coating, R&D, and special applications.
The basis of our success was laid in Germany 150 years ago by Ernst Leybold and Wilhelm Carl Heraeus. They addressed their pioneering spirit to the search for new manufacturing processes and founded our internationally recognized vacuum-technology company, which has set market standards ever since.
