New AR Coating Process for In-Mold scratch resistant lenses
Alzenau, 01/2004
LEYBOLD OPTICS GmbH, the inventors of modern optical coatings have developed a new AR coating process, called OPTIFLEX SA, to provide high durability over in-mold scratch resistant surfaces, like those manufactured by Signet Armorlite, a leading lens manufacturer.
The new AR coating process, OPTIFLEX SA, increases the adhesion of AR coating to in-mold scratch resistant lenses utilizing the Optiflex AR coating process from LEYBOLD OPTICS. OPTIFLEX SA has a shorter process time of 35 minutes compared to 60 minutes for other coatings, which guarantees a significant cost reduction in the production process. This process is only available on all LEYBOLD OPTICS batch coating systems.
Lenses coated utilizing the OPTIFLEX SA process have been tested, and approved by Signet Armorlite. “We rec-ommend the OPTIFLEX SA process to all of our customers using the LEYBOLD OPTICS machines for AR coating Signet Armorlite lenses” said Steve Drake, Director of Technical Services.
About LEYBOLD OPTICS
As a prominent manufacturer of vacuum coating systems and developer of processes for the thin film technology, LEYBOLD OPTICS is represented in thirteen countries worldwide. The main focus of our processing technologies is on evaporation, sputtering and plasma-assisted coating processes for display technology, ophthalmics, precision optics, reflective and protective coatings, web coating, R&D, and special applications.
The basis of our success was laid in Germany 150 years ago by Ernst Leybold and Wilhelm Carl Heraeus. They addressed their pioneering spirit to the search for new manufacturing processes and founded our internationally recognized vacuum-technology company, which has set market standards ever since.
